以水墨之名
— —刘小木的志怪式抒情

刘小木的艺术探索，不仅体现在她的创作主题和形式上，更体现在她对艺术观念和手法的不断尝试和突破上。在她的艺术创作之路上，她始终保持着对传统与现代、材料与表达之间平衡的探索。从早期的以材料为主的水墨实验性创作，到后来山海经系列，再到如今以“MouMou”为主体的创作，刘小木在绘画语言上愈发成熟和自由。
早期的水墨实验解决了她在技法上的问题，从学院的传统技法到自我认定，自我语言重构的个体表达，完成了第一次蜕变。在山海经系列中，她解决了创作主题问题，依托传统题材，使得她在内容的限制中掌握了自由的极致，造型更大胆，色彩更炫丽，山海经的奇异打开了她的想象。一切准备都为成就，走到如今，由外延的漫想，走向内在的自查，从个人体验出发，寻求个体价值感，MouMou 的诞生看似偶然，实则是积累到现在的必然结果。
像怪兽一样的卡通形象，带着情绪漫游在不同的世界，离奇怪诞的场景，是 MouMou 在经历，更是刘小木给自己的广阔和自由，在她的作品里，得到了她无法用语言和逻辑实现的，畅意的表达。在绢本作品里她使用传统的没骨法，水墨的材质，使得画面有很浓的古意，但是造型却已明显带有新潮的印记。受到水墨材料限制，她的作品不能反复，只能加不能减，能看到她极度的宁静，在穿插造型的空间中自如游走，胸有成竹的悠闲自在。
刘小木的艺术创作，既是对传统的继承，也是对现代的探索，她在不断地尝试和突破中，寻找属于自己的艺术语言，用画笔描绘出内心的情感和思考，更是对艺术观念、手法和主题的独特理解和探索。

早期绘画作品创作脉络，源自古老的地理人文志《山海经》，泥金绢纸，绢本设色，布面丙烯为媒介。构图和着色尝试对“传统水墨”的解构重组，生成自己的当代水墨实验语境，诠释超越时空的物、灵、精、怪与山川星辰的永恒话题。近期作品以绢本设色，布面丙烯为媒介，更多绘画语言是记录自己的梦境和想象空间。表达对现实世界中无助感的自我救赎，开启成长、蜕变。
MouMou:
长着角，尖尖的牙齿，每一次的出现总有异兽、精灵相伴，以共生的方式填补内心的孤寂，相互陪伴。拥有超越时空的勇气、智慧和力量。
Liu Xiaomu Artist
Liu Xiaomu has been living and working in Beijing since 2010. Her early paintings were inspired by the ancient geographic and cultural classic “The Classic of Mountains and Seas”. Based on the medium of silk paper, color on silk, and acrylic on canvas, Liu attempted to deconstruct and reinterpret the “Traditional Chinese Ink Painting”in terms of composition and coloring, and generated her own contemporary experimental context for ink painting, interpreting the eternal topics of objects, souls, spirits, and monsters beyond the space and time, as well as mountains, rivers and the stars.
In her recent works, Liu has concentrated on color on silk and acrylic on canvas.Her artistic language has evolved to record her dreams and imagination, expressing a process of self-redemption from the helplessness of the real world. In this phase, her paintings reflect a journey of her own growth and metamorphosis.
MouMou:
A creature with horns and sharp teeth, MouMou always appears surrounded by beasts and elves, filling the heart’s loneliness in a symbiotic relationship.Together, they support each other, possessing the courage, wisdom, and strength to transcend the boundaries of time and space.
